what we’ve won for uca students this year

 

  • £95,000 of profit from fees and fines being put into the Hardship Fund as a result of lobbying the uni.
  • Bronze level achieved as part of the Green Impact scheme. Our first time ever trying.
  • 10.6% increase in students’ satisfaction of the Students’ Union, over a period of just four months.
  • £10,000 fundraised as a result of the Students’ Union facilitating student-run events.
  • 21.4% more students surveyed as part of SUXL than in the same period during 2010/11.
  • 26.4% increase in election turnout compared to the year before, with 800 students voting.
  • £1,000 secured to build a student-designed smoking shelter on the Canterbury campus.
  • £50,000 budget gained to improve Student Engagement across all five campuses.
  • 76 students attended our Annual General Meeting in Epsom and Canterbury, giving us quoracy.
  • 1 brand-spanking-new Course Representative system put in place by the SU, to ensure problems are dealt with faster.
  • £1.2m saved by UCA, following government lobby to allow an opt-out of student number controls for 2012/13.
  • 6 MPs agreed to write to David Willets supporting our calls for the opt-out of student number controls to be continued.
  • 3 new student media outlets have set up as a result of winning cash from the Creative Fund. They’re called Glue.
  • 5,000 - the average estimated circulation of the first issue of Glue, UCA’s student-run magazine.
  • £5,000 won to improve the experience of students studying at the Maidstone campus.
  • 7000 student interactions have been made with the SU over the last 12 months.
  • A GAZILLION all-student spam emails have been blocked, following student pressure.
  • Free bus passes have been given to Rochester students living in Maidstone halls of residence.
  • 1 external supplier has been sourced to polish the glass work of students in Farnham, after their facilities were removed.
  • All students with outstanding debts to the university will still be able to access online services during summer.
  • Over 300 students are involved with clubs and socs across all campuses.
